Donald Trump’s first year

Posted by on Dec 6, 2017 in Perspectives | 0 comments

The 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, has been in office for nearly a year. His time in office has been faced with much adversity from both sides of the aisle, in a time when political tensions in America appear to be at an all time high, at least in recent memory. President Trump entered office following a brutal and divisive 2016 election, which ended with his winning the White House and Republicans continuing to have majorities in both houses of Congress. Though tensions have been high in American politics, it is important to take a step back from the sensationalism of the daily news cycle and quick posts on social media and, instead, evaluate this President and his Administration based on substantive policy achievements that have occurred in the last 10 months. I will admit...

Maryville College republicans want your support

Posted by on Oct 25, 2017 in Perspectives | 0 comments

Maryville College is a two-party campus. The Maryville College Republicans Club is seeking to increase the level of political diversity on campus by providing a forum for conservative students and members of the Republican Party. There is a much larger number of Republicans on campus than many would think, and the MC Republicans club is seeking to provide a home for those students who identify as Republicans and to anyone who would like to learn more about the GOP. Every other week, the MC Republicans come together and engage with local elected officials and candidates for office. Recent guests include members of the Tennessee House of Representatives that represent Blount County.   The MC Republicans are not just limited to meetings–members of the club are actively engaged in the community, participating in political campaigns and other community events. Our...

You know what sucks? Binge Drinking

Posted by on Feb 25, 2016 in Perspectives | 0 comments

I’m guessing I have already lost most of my already abysmal fan base after they read the title above. They probably either strongly disagree with this claim or  read the title and said, “duh!” Regardless, if you are still with me, I will hit all the “worsts”  of binge drinking. Do not get me wrong. You may be thinking, “What a loser…” but contrary to what you may believe, I have had my moments partaking in this extracurricular activity. Why it was just this past weekend that I entered a beer pong tournament in which all entering fees collected were donated to the charity organization “Friends of Literacy.” In fact, I have to say that I have managed to have some fun nights despite going a bit overboard. However, it is pretty undeniable that there are some negative aspects...

What to watch when you “Netflix and Chill”

Posted by on Jan 27, 2016 in Arts/Entertainment, Feature Slider | 0 comments

At this point, most people have probably figured out what it means when you receive an invitation from someone to “watch Netflix and chill.” Without going into too much detail, it generally means that person is too cheap to take you out on a date before… well, you know. However, if this is not the intent and you truly do wish to watch something on Netflix, there are several gems in the Netflix library. For your benefit, I have compiled a list of worth-while movies and shows that are worth watching if you have not already done so.      First I would like to mention “Pulp Fiction” because it is one of my favorite moves.  I am a huge Quentin Tarantino fan so if I was not concerned about it, his movies would fill up my list. However, I...

You Know What Sucks? J-Term

Posted by on Jan 27, 2016 in Perspectives | 0 comments

January Term, more commonly known as J-term, has been referred to in many different ways. Some refer to it as “Play-term.” Others may refer to J-term simply as a big party. Believe it or not, some students value J-term and see it as a great opportunity to reach requirements for their major or core curriculum.  While there are many students that like and enjoy J-term, I have to say that I think that J-Term sucks. Some students enjoy being here during J-term. If this sounds like you, let me remind you that while you are taking your J-term course for the first week, many of your friends at other schools are still sitting at home binge watching Netflix or playing their Playstation until their eyes are bloodshot. Likewise, while all of your friends from other schools are concluding the...
