Blount County Archives celebrate ‘Archives Month’ with special showcase events

Less than 10 minutes from the Maryville College campus exists a treasure trove of history for our entire community to enjoy. The Blount County Archives, run by Records Manager and County Archivist Jackie Glenn, was created to help serve the general public and offices of the Courthouse and Justice Center by receiving and processing both permanent and temporary records created by the Blount County Government from 1795 to present. The Archives provide information on court records, demography, genealogy and the history of Blount County and Tennessee, as well as providing access to all records not deemed confidential by law. The records are open to those in the government, legal professions, historians and the general public. MC history professor speaks at Blount County Democrats Roosevelt Dinner

On Saturday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Alcoa High School, the Blount County Democratic Party held its Roosevelt Dinner. This dinner is held in honor of our nation’s 32nd president for his ideals and contributions to our nation and our state. The dinner serves as a reminder to the party, which suffered a dramatic defeat in last year’s presidential election, that the principles and values the party was built on are still relevant today. Halloween happenings on Maryville College campus

This year on campus at Maryville College, several student groups will be sponsoring some “Spook-tacular” events for your enjoyment. Impressions, which organizes and produces an annual publication of student and staff creative works and hosts related events, hosted their annual reading event, “Fireside Fright Night”, at 8:00 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the MacArthur Pavilion. The event included S’mores, hot chocolate, cider and readings of fiction, poetry and other reading material brought to the event. Students enjoyed an evening of scares and stories with fellow students and alumni. The MC Gamers, a Maryville College group dedicated to creating a gaming-oriented community on campus, is hosting three great events this Halloween season.
