Camp 4 returns to MC

On March 29, Camp 4 resumed operation and reopened the Crawford House doors to Maryville College and the surrounding community. This weekly event seeks to promote healthy, active living with the outdoors, and the Mountain Challenge staff has created a multitude of activities for us all to join in. Activities to participate in include climbing The Alpine Tower, rock climbing in the climbing cave, personal fitness classes, outdoor yoga and weekly walks through the campus woods. “We noticed there was a decrease in activity in the college and the community that supported wellness. We wanted to do something that promoted the motto Fit. Green. Happy,” said June Rosenbarker. Camp 4 afternoons and are characterized by fitness, greenness, and happiness. MC Soccer Team travels to Europe for trip of a lifetime

This past Spring Break, the men’s and women’s soccer teams adventured to Europe to experience the cultures of Germany and Italy and play some quality soccer against international competition. This trip, which is organized every three years by the soccer coaches in conjunction with a group named XL Travels, chooses exciting places for the visitors to see and great opportunities for the athletes to have some cross-cultural competition. This year’s trip featured Munich and Augsburg, located in Germany; Venice, Florence, Montecatini, Lucca and Milan, which are all located in Italy; and the microstate of San Marino. The adventure started on March 17, and, after an eight-hour flight through the night and a five-hour time change, the traveling crew arrived in Munich for their first day of activities. This year, at the ripe age of 35, Serena Williams has won her 23rd Grand Slam singles match in Australia, earning the title of most Grand Slam singles victories in history. According to ESPN, she is now just one title away, behind Margaret Court, from having the most Grand Slams of any kind in tennis history. Being one of the most winningest athletes in all of sports history, Williams has a lesson to teach us all this Black History Month: there are no barriers that you cannot break down to reach equality.
