Men’s soccer team shaping up well for post-season play

The men’s soccer team sits in good standing for post-season tournament play. They currently have a strong record of 9-1-1 in Conference after their recent tie with Greensboro College on Oct. 21, and look forward to their last game of the regular season on Oct. 25 at home against Piedmont. The men’s team started their season with a six-game winning streak, but failed to outscore Emory College on Sept. 20. The opponent’s goal came late in the game in the 80th minute. However, since then, the team rebounded remarkably and went on another six-game winning streak. That streak began with a 4-1 victory at Berea College on Sept. 27. Goals came from Junior Johnny Rakmonberdiev, Senior Cody Vankerschaever, Sophomore Jameson Elmore and Sophomore Aaron Rucker. Men’s soccer conference title winners show promising start to 2017 season

The Maryville College Men’s Soccer Team has shown a strong  beginning to their 2017 season with victories over their first six opponents in the regular season. The team began their season with two home victories over East Mennonite University (2-0) and Wilmington College (2-1), allowing them to claim 2017 Maryville College Invitational Title. The following weekend came with two more home victories against Pfeiffer University (2-1) and Huntingdon College (3-1). “We have experience on our side, and our high fitness levels have helped lead us to a great start,” Head Coach Pepe Fernandez said. “They’re a group that is used to winning, which has allowed us to get some pretty great wins at home.” After those initial four wins, the men packed up the bus and headed to Virginia to play two tough conference opponents. Large incoming class bodes well for Maryville women’s soccer team

Sights are aimed high regarding this year’s Women’s Soccer Team. A group of hard-working and enthusiastic girls, this group faced tough opponents early on in the season with grit and determination. Their current record is 4-2-1, which shows room for improvement, but, above all, shows a group willing to battle until the last whistle blows. “The girls came in with a higher fitness level than in years past, which is a great start,” Assistant Coach Jon Baker said. “We jumped into two early scrimmages, which gave us a good look at what we needed to get better at. Since then, the team has been greatly improving.” The women began their season with two home games as part of the Maryville College Invitational. Camp 4 returns to MC

On March 29, Camp 4 resumed operation and reopened the Crawford House doors to Maryville College and the surrounding community. This weekly event seeks to promote healthy, active living with the outdoors, and the Mountain Challenge staff has created a multitude of activities for us all to join in. Activities to participate in include climbing The Alpine Tower, rock climbing in the climbing cave, personal fitness classes, outdoor yoga and weekly walks through the campus woods. “We noticed there was a decrease in activity in the college and the community that supported wellness. We wanted to do something that promoted the motto Fit. Green. Happy,” said June Rosenbarker. Camp 4 afternoons and are characterized by fitness, greenness, and happiness. MC Soccer Team travels to Europe for trip of a lifetime

This past Spring Break, the men’s and women’s soccer teams adventured to Europe to experience the cultures of Germany and Italy and play some quality soccer against international competition. This trip, which is organized every three years by the soccer coaches in conjunction with a group named XL Travels, chooses exciting places for the visitors to see and great opportunities for the athletes to have some cross-cultural competition. This year’s trip featured Munich and Augsburg, located in Germany; Venice, Florence, Montecatini, Lucca and Milan, which are all located in Italy; and the microstate of San Marino. The adventure started on March 17, and, after an eight-hour flight through the night and a five-hour time change, the traveling crew arrived in Munich for their first day of activities.
