Derek Webb to perform at MC Feb. 7
Who is Derek Webb? Perhaps you have seen some students walking around campus with this question on their T-shirts.
Here’s the answer to the question: Derek Webb was a member of the band Caedmon’s Call, which made a big impact on the Christian music scene in the 1990s. Ten years ago, Webb left Caedmon’s Call to go out on his own, and since then he has earned a reputation as a provocative singer-songwriter who challenges the political and spiritual status quo.
Come find out for yourself! Derek Webb will be on campus all day Tuesday, Feb. 7, as this year’s February Meetings speaker.
At 1 p.m., Webb will introduce himself through words and music in the Harold and Jean Lambert Recital Hall of the Clayton Center for the Arts. This will be a Q & A format, mainly geared toward the student community. At 7 p.m., he will perform a concert in the Clayton Center’s Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre.
Both events are free and open to the public. Lots of off-campus guests are expected to attend, but it is hoped that this event will draw together the broad MC community of students, faculty and staff, of diverse faiths and musical tastes.
For more information, please contact Anne McKee, campus minister, or anyone in the Center for Campus Ministry.
Or, look for someone wearing a “WHO IS DEREK WEBB?” T-shirt. Tell them you know the answer.
