Men’s Tennis Team suffers tough loss at home

The Maryville College Men’s Tennis Team took a tough defeat at the hands of Covenant College out of Lookout Mountain, Ga. The Men of Maryville came into the match with a record of 2-5, being 0-2 when playing in the USA South Conference.

The Covenant Men’s team came into the contest with a record of 3-6, and not having played a conference match yet. The day started with Covenant taking all three of the doubles contests. The Scots pair of Wesley Bloeme and Trevor Perry were the pair who closest came to stopping the early charges, but were unable to, putting up a score of 8-2.

It then turned toward the singles matches, and the Scots looked at this time for improvement and make a comeback. It was unsuccessful in the first two attempts with Logan Hull (CC) defeating Marcos Herrero (MC), and Micah Fox (CC) defeating Boomer Russell (MC). MC got its first singles victory with Bloeme defeating Wood in three tough sets.

Trey Wetjen of Covenant flipped the ship for Covenant and took down MC’s own Perry in a two set match that could have gone either way. Maryville ended strongly by picking up the last singles victory of the day, with Cole Stinson taking down Tristian Smallwood in three sets.
