Students plan to travel to Harlaxton Manor for study program

Although the year 2020 has created many inconveniences regarding travel and trips for students and individuals around the globe, things look bright for possible travel in the future. With many disappointments and cancellations, Maryville College students anticipate the possibility of a travel study program next spring.

In May 2021, students will be joining Dr. Gabie Kerr, lectured in Management, in a two-week study abroad program in England. Students will be lodging in Harlaxton Manor for the entirety of the program and experience moments that will be remembered for a lifetime.

Harlaxton College is the University of Evansville’s study abroad center based in a Victorian manor house in Grantham, England. At Harlaxton College, Maryville College students will be immersed into the beautiful history that is in the heart of England. Harlaxton Manor is placed on 300 acres of countryside, amidst the secluded British Midlands, and a short hour train commute north to the beautiful city of London.

In the two weeks, Kerr and students will learn all about international business throughout England. From visiting London Stock Exchange or Business School to the Land Rover Factory, students will learn about all aspects of international business and how businesses, globally, interact with one another. The two-week study program will allow students to gain three credit hours in either BUS329 or BUS349.

Students will gain knowledge on basic concepts regarding international business and have the opportunity to analyze the social, economic, and political environment of England.  Students will be able to gain knowledge and deeper understanding of the impact of the external forces (economic, political, social, and physical) that impact organizations across national, and global, borders.

The study program will include free time for students and allow them the opportunity to explore the wonderful aspects of Europe. Students will be given free time in London, Edinburgh, Scotland, and of course the beautiful, Harlaxton Manor.

Throughout the two weeks students will embark on many incredible events, a few highlights include: a visit to Wyndham Park, a visit to Land Rover factor, center of Birmingham, a visit St. Giles’ Cathedral, Harry Potter walking tour of Edinburgh, a visit to Manchester football club, a tour of Belvoir Castle, a tour of Triumph Motorcycle factory, and a visit to London Business school. This is just a brief look into what students will have the opportunity to experience.

The deadline for applications has been extended to November 2, but for students that have any questions regarding the possibility of future programs beyond Harlaxton College, contact Kerr at [email protected]. The hope is that this beneficial and enriching experience will get to take place, and for students that are plan on attending should stay tuned for any updates.
