Victorious conference weekend for MC Volleyball
The Maryville College Scots women’s volleyball team had a victorious weekend, beating three different conference teams in two days. On Saturday, Oct. 3 the women beat Huntingdon College and LaGrange College at Huntingdon. Then, on Sunday, Oct. 4, the Fighting Scots defeated Piedmont in another away matchup.
Senior Madison Coker was a game leader against both Huntingdon and LaGrange. Coker had 12 kills against LaGrange and ten against Huntingdon. Sophomore Rachel Kozemko also had 14 kills against Piedmont. Coker had 11 more kills on Sunday.
Even though there were many standout players this past weekend, the women still worked as a team to make the victories possible.
“It was a team effort. Everyone on the court and off the court helped out this weekend. Not a single point could have been scored without the other 16 members on this team,” said Kozemko. “This weekend was a direct result of each member of the team selflessly coming together to attain our victories.”
On Sunday, Oct. 4 head coach Kandis Schram scored her 700th win with the MC Scots. Schram has been coaching volleyball at Maryville College for 30 seasons.
“I am humbled to have been a part of Coach Schram’s 700th win,” said Coker.
The Scots still remain undefeated in the USA South conference with a record of 6-0. There are ten more conference games left this season, and the Scots appreciate all the support they can get. The Lady Scots will next take on Greensboro on Friday, Oct. 16 at Mary Baldwin College.
