A Maryville Christmas
On Dec. 5 at 7p.m., the MC Division of Fine Arts will be hosting the performance of “A Maryville Christmas.” This is the second year that this performance will be put on by the entire Fine Arts Division.
In previous years, each department in the division would put on their own separate performances, keeping the proceeds from those shows for their individual departments. But now, perhaps moved by the spirit of the holidays, the whole division works together to create one massive, festive celebration and splits the proceeds equally.
The performance will consist of seven different Maryville College music ensembles including The MC Concert Choir, The MC Orchestra, The MC Community Chorus, The MC3Band, The Scottie Singers, The Highland Chorale and the MC Theatre Department. The concert will feature a mixture of classic Christmas carols and holiday favorites, as well as an accompanying dialogue and an appearance from Santa Claus himself!
The music performed will range from the 1500’s to modern-day holiday tracks. Some songs to look forward to are “Appalachian Carol,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “A Christmas Festival” and “Grown-Up Christmas List” to name a few.
This event will be a festive and interactive way to get into the holiday spirit. During the concert, attendees should expect to have the chance to participate in a sing-along and to be surrounded by holiday decor.
If you or someone you know is feeling a little bit like the Grinch this holiday season, come and let our MC community of over 150 performers uplift you with their holiday cheer and help you ring in the holidays the right way. There’s nothing more likely to get you ready for the Christmas season.
Some of your fellow MC students will also be making solo appearances and performances during the show, so attending would be a great way to show your support for your friends at MC, as well as showing a little love for the Division of Fines Arts. The division and all of their participants started prepping for this event back in early November, so they’re more than ready to show off their cheer for you and your family.
The performance will be held in the Clayton Center for the Arts’ Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre. Tickets will be free for MC students, faculty and staff, but you’ll need to get them in advance because a physical ticket is required for entry.
For all others who want to attend but are not current MC students, faculty or staff, tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students in the Maryville area and free for children who are five years old or younger. Tickets can be purchased at the Clayton Center box office, online or by calling the box office’s number at (865) 981-8590.
