Foothill Hills Players “The Importance of Being Earnest” ready to take stage
Coming up in November, Foothill Hills Players (FCP) will be performing “The Importance of Being Earnest.” Director of the show is MC Alum Nicci Grigsby.
“I didn’t pick the show,” Grigsby said. “I applied to direct this show because I enjoy Oscar Wilde’s talent for combining wit and silliness. I had read the show in college but never seen it performed, which always provides a creative challenge in directing for me.”
With the cast being made up of FCP veterans along with new faces, Grigsby believes that one of the best parts of production is casting.
“I feel like I’m an eager fan, waiting to squeal excitedly at the next role by a beloved actor or to fawn over a new talent,” Grigsby said. Grigsby has been working with FCP since 2008 taking on any role in the production process.
“My favorite part of directing is watching the actors evolve through exploring characters collaboratively in rehearsals and through making their own judgments about them,” Grigsby said.
As the cast and crew prepares for the show, Grigsby said, “I love watching a character be brought to life by someone who has worked hard to come to an understanding of who the character is as a person.”
Grigsby wants her audience to “be prepared for fluffy, lighthearted silliness! We’ve had a lot of fun putting the show together and plan to share the fun with our audience members!”
Show times are Nov. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at Maryville High School. Tickets will be on sale soon.
