MC Uplift and Get Down

With exams, essays, presentations and deadlines getting closer, tensions are high on campus. Students can fall into the trap of feeling like they cannot take a break, which can increase stress. Maryville College’s Uplift week, March 1-9, is a week of activities both on and off campus meant to give overwhelmed students a break from their studies.

In hopes of turning Uplift Week into an exciting event this year, the Student Programming Board (SPB) is partnering with other clubs and organizations on campus to create a week full of activities to lift spirits as stress rises among students. All MC Uplift Week events are free to students with their Maryville College I.D.

The week kicked off with Cosmic Bowling sponsored by SPB at Crest Bowling Lanes. SPB will also be hosting a Vienna takeover on open mic night, which is Thursday March 8 from 7-10 p.m. The first 50 students will also get a free beverage worth up to $5.

The MC Dance Ensemble will be doing their part by hosting an open rehearsal. This will take place Wednesday March 7 from 9-10 p.m. in the Alumni Gym. Sophomore Alyssa Miller will be teaching a fun, simple combo for everyone to learn with the help of members of the ensemble.

“I feel like outside of our show we don’t do a ton, so I really wanted to do something,” Miller said. “It’s just going to be super casual and lot’s of fun.”

If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, sad, or just want to have a good time, take advantage of these fun festivities, and on Wednesday if you are feeling especially down in the dumps, come bust a move with the MC Dance Ensemble.
