SGA newsletter
The Maryville College Student Government Association (SGA) is always striving to create a campus atmosphere where students feel welcome at his or her home away from home. SGA understands that Maryville College students have a wide variety of interests and hobbies, and we are always excited to approve new student organizations that give busy students something about which to become passionate.
Recently, SGA had the privilege of approving “Athletes for Change” as a new Chartered Organization, from their previous Interest Group. This means that they will now receive a budget each year from SGA.
Athletes for Change promotes diversity between athletes and non-athletes alike by raising money for various charities throughout the year. Athletes for Change holds weekly meetings in the campus Multicultural Center that are open to everyone on campus.
An SGA committee, Campus Life, will be adding new picnic tables to our campus during the spring semester. Campus Life noticed that our current outdoor seating was inadequate and did not meet the current desire that students had for outdoor studying and socializing. SGA has allotted funds for five new picnic tables to be placed strategically around campus, with one of those tables replacing the one outside Beeson that has begun to rot.
In addition, Campus Life has also decided to make stress balls to be given to students during the end of the semester. The stress balls will be made from balloons, rice and flour. These will be great for studying and can be taken virtually anywhere. Be sure to be on the lookout for these stress balls in the upcoming weeks!
Do you have any ideas on how to make campus better? Not sure who to reach out to? Contact your representative or senator! They are always looking for ways to improve the lives of their constituents. SGA meetings are also open to the entire student body and are held in Thaw 216 on Thursday’s at 12:30 p.m.
