The buzz about Buzz Sutherland Abby Davis
On Fri., Feb. 22, comedian Buzz Sutherland will visit Maryville College for a
special comedy show. Sponsored by the Student Programming Board (SPB), the
event will take place in Isaac’s at 7 p.m. Admission is free for MC students. SPB
members advise arriving early to secure a seat.
The Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA) has given
Sutherland four years in a row with the award for best comedian of the year, and
the title of overall performer of the year twice. Selected members of SPB made a trip
to APCA conference March of 2012, where they experienced Sutherland’s comedy
routine.
Cayce Crisp, special events leader of SPB, said that Sunderland’s humor and
ability to connect with college students would work well with an MC audience.
He has also appeared on MTV’s Half Hour Comedy Hour and HBO’s Comic Relief.
Sutherland is the third of four comedians to visit campus this year. The list includes
Jay Black, Andrew Norelli and Wayne Hoffman.
Black started the line of comedic
performances in September 2012, and Hoffman will end the year in April.
Sutherland is best known for his video of breaking out into Backstreet Boy
songs, and some of his most popular jokes are on women’s humor and airplane
interactions.
