SGA Hosts Student Organization Celebration banquet honoring student leadership
On the evening of April 16, Maryville College’s Student Government Association (SGA) Financial-Budgetary and Organizational Affairs Committee (FBOAC) hosted the 2024-2025 Student Organization Celebration.
This event was planned to recognize and award students who have been involved with student organizations during the 2024-2025 school year. SGA’s Executive Treasurer, Lily Little (‘27), said she has been planning the event since December.
“It’s just a big thank you to all of the leaders on campus and all of the hard work they’ve put in, a little celebration of the celebrations we have all the time.” Little said
The event was held in the CCA foyer, which was decorated by FBOAC and many other SGA students. Metz dining services provided food, everything from mac and cheese bites to chocolate chip cookies. After time for mingling, awards began and Little, along with the rest of FBOAC, recognized outstanding club leaders for their work.
Charlie Anderson (‘26), a member of FBOAC, wanted to make sure Little was recognized for her hard work.
“This is Lily’s brain child right here. She has been locked in on this for so long, there is so much effort put into this, her above anyone else. I think she should really be recognized for that.” Anderson said.
“I think every member of club leadership that showed up today deserves the recognition and I am glad there is representation of a wide variety of clubs with a wide variety of interests.” Anderson added.
Members of club leadership had similar sentiments about the evening. Maddie Parris (‘25), the president of Psi Chi/Psychology Club, shared appreciation for the evening and for the members of her club.
“I am just really happy that everybody is getting represented [here], and that it’s not something we had to compete for, it’s something we worked for and now we are being recognized for it.” Parris said.
Josh Cornell (‘26), the vice president of SGA and representative for Fashion Club and MC Politics, provided more context on the importance of the evening.
“There is a lot of good motivation behind [tonight.] We have a lot of talented people on campus and it’s really important to make sure that people get awards and get the recognition they deserve. [Just to] make sure, that even if it is not at the big awards ceremony, we have something that honors the student leadership we have here. We have a lot of active student organizations and it’s just important to recognize all the hard work they put into their clubs.” Cornell said.
Austin McKee (‘26), an active member in many clubs on campus, shared similar feelings about the evening and expressed excitement over the evening.
“I think this is great. I think student leaders in organizations should be celebrated for their hard work.” Mckee exclaimed.
Kendra Young (‘27), who is not currently a part of any on campus clubs, still came out to support.
“I just came to support my friends and to see them thrive as usual. I think events like this are really important, because not only does it give people a purpose, being involved on campus, but it can encourage them to support Maryville College after they leave.” Young said.
