Dance Ensemble presents fall recital entitled “Peace, Love, & Dance”
On Saturday, Dec. 2 the Maryville College Dance Ensemble will perform their 2017 fall recital titled, “Peace. Love. Dance.” There will be two shows that day, one show will start at 2p.m. and the other will start at 7p.m. The recital will be held at Clayton Center for the Arts in the Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre.
The ensemble will perform under the leadership of students Jessica Rhea, Bailey Decker and Alyssa Miller. The evening’s program includes many different styles of dance such as ballet, hip-hop, modern and contemporary. The night will consist of two acts and a 15 minute intermission. The opening dance will include all ensemble members and a few guest choreographers. The opening dance was choreographed by Jessica Rhea and Bailey Decker. The closing dance will also include ensemble members and was choreographed by Alyssa Miller. Maryville College Alumni, Candace Whitman, also choreographed a dance for four of the ensemble members to perform in this years recital.
The ensemble dancers have worked hard all semester. Each dance has been carefully chosen and choreographed by members of the ensemble, guest choreographers and special guest soloists to fit the theme of positivity and love.
“We really wanted to focus on positivity,” Miller said in reference to this year’s chosen theme. “It doesn’t matter if you are the best dancer, all that matters is to love yourself for who you are.”
Miller is also excited about the soloist and guest performers that will take the stage in a few weeks.
“We do have a guest performer from my local studio who made it to the top 20 in ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’” she said. “Her name is Abby Griffin, and she will be performing a solo.” She also stated that there will be a guest performance by Sammi Pamfil, a senior at Maryville College.
While Miller, Rhea, Decker and the other members of ensemble have different majors, jobs and interests, Dance Ensemble brings each member together to create something pretty magical. I hope many of you will come out to see the wonderful spectacle that will be Maryville College’s Dance Ensemble’s Performance of “Peace. Love. Dance.” For more information about Maryville College’s Dance Ensemble please contact Alyssa Miller at [email protected].
