EDITOR’S NOTE: A new feature in The Highland Echo this fall, “The Echo Encore” entertainment calendar strives to keep you apprised of on-campus events, and the occasional off-campus spotlight, taking place in the coming weeks. And don’t forget! Maryville College will be closed Oct. 1 and 2 for Fall Break.

MC Division of Fine Arts

• Oct. 13: Small Ensembles Concert (Lads, Lassies, Off Kilter). 7 p.m. in the Lambert Recital Hall. Tickets are free for MC students, faculty and staff, but a printed ticket from the box office is required.
• Oct. 15-18: “Detroit” (Obie-winning play by Lisa D’Amour produced by the MC Theatre Department). 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 through Saturday, Oct. 17; 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. All performances in the Flex Theatre. Tickets are free for MC students, faculty and staff, but a printed ticket from the box office is required.
• Oct. 26: Keyboard Night (recital by keyboard/piano/organ students of Rachel Acuff, Ashley Burell and Gina Milligan). 6 p.m. in the Lambert Recital Hall. Free.
• Nov. 3: MC Jazz Band Concert, 6 p.m. in the Lambert Recital Hall. Free.
• Nov. 7: Maryville College Choir Festival, 2:30 p.m. 

All MC Division of Fine Arts performances take place in the Clayton Center for the Arts; students, faculty and staff are admitted free, but some events (like “Detroit”) require a reserved ticket from the box office for admission.

Clayton Center for the Arts: “Clayton Center Presents” shows

• Oct. 10: “The Magic of Motown” (nationally touring Motown show), 7:30 p.m. in the Nutt Theatre. Tickets begin at $55.97.
• Oct. 15: Chi-Town Transit Authority (eight-piece Chicago tribute band), 7:30 p.m. in the Nutt Theatre. Tickets begin at $41.81.
• Oct. 27: “Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock, Live” (a “Fraggle Rock” stage show), 7 p.m. in the Nutt Theatre. Tickets start at $41.55.
• Nov. 8: United States Air Force Band of Mid-America: Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble, 3 p.m. in the Nutt Theatre. Free.

Students interested in attending “Clayton Center Presents” performances can check with the box office or Today@MC on the day of each show for the release of free tickets to MC students with valid student ID. Call the box office at: 865-981-8590.

Community Events at the Clayton Center

• Oct. 29-31: “Dracula” (a ballet by Appalachian Ballet Company). 7 p.m. Oct. 29, 6 p.m. Oct. 30, 2 and 5 p.m. Oct. 31. Tickets start at $41.66

Other Campus Events

• Today (Sept. 29): Pride Club and the Center for Campus Ministry present the annual Chalk Walk, 1:15 p.m. on the sidewalks outside the CCM; speakers, singing and snacks will be provided.
• Wednesday, Sept. 30: LatinX Student Alliance and MC Community and Belonging present “Hispanic Heritage Month Fiesta,” 4-7 p.m. at the Clayton Center for the Arts featuring live mariachi music, folk dancing, traditional foods and desserts, games and activities, and more.
• Oct. 15: Annual Wellness Fair presented by the MC Counseling Center, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Pearsons Lawn, featuring food trucks, inflatable games, raffle prizes, 20-plus tables of on- and off-campus wellness organizations and more.
• Oct. 21: Knoxville Vintage Market, presented by Fit.Green.Happy.®, 2-7 p.m. in front of Crawford House, with food trucks, Camp 4 activities, music, vendors and more.
• Oct. 22: Homecoming Mocktail Hour, 1-2 p.m. at the CCM, with flights of three to four mocktails for sampling, trivia games and info on safe alcohol use, binge drinking, risk assessment and harm reduction. 
• Oct. 22: Chili Dog Fest, presented by Community and Belonging, 4-6 p.m. at McArthur Pavilion with chili dogs, lawn games, HABIT dogs and more.

• Friday, Oct. 2: Short Term Memory (regional cover band), 9 p.m. at Brackins Blues Club; free. (Must be 21+)
