The Modern SGA

All those in favor of RICE say, “Aye.” Not in favor? Think again but, this time, with the open mind of a Scot.

As SGA rebrands during the 2018-2019 school year, new innovative strategies will be continually unveiled. SGA’s intention is to facilitate the growth and success of different campus organizations. Due to some budgetary challenges this year, SGA has to learn how to support organizations in other ways than passing bills for money.

Rather than solely dispersing dollars, SGA will offer Budgetary Workshops, allowing others to learn effective fundraising strategies, how to manage a budget, and learn what it takes to be a successful organization. SGA is working to enhance the student experience, it is the goal of SGA to always keep RICE at the forefront of its decision-making.

At Maryville College, the Student Government Association (SGA) assures a campus environment built on RICE: Respect, Integrity, Communication, and Empowerment.

While representing the entire student population, SGA encourages an atmosphere of RESPECT for diversity.

To improve the overall student experience, SGA supports policy with utmost INTEGRITY by recognizing the interests and welfare of all students regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, family status, gender presentation and orientation, immigration status, religion, sex, socioeconomic status, and veteran status.

By serving as a liaison between faculty, staff, alumni, parents and the student body, SGA displays open COMMUNICATION while fostering a tradition of academic excellence and school pride. Not only does SGA foster a communication between students and faculty, but SGA can also teach other organizations how to communicate with members in a successful way. Communication is key from one year to the next, especially between leaders within the organizations.

Through representation, SGA promotes EMPOWERMENT of all students on this campus. Composed of elected representatives, SGA branches into five committees: Internal Affairs, Campus Life and Affairs, Non-Traditional Student Affairs, Compassion, as well as Budgetary and Organizational Affairs.

As the Emperor pronounced in the Disney animated film, “Mulan”, “A single grain of RICE can tip the scale.”

Students of Maryville College your representatives on the Student Government Association say “Aye” to RICE and tipping the scale directly in your favor.
