A Maryville Christmas
On Dec. 5 at 7p.m., the MC Division of Fine Arts hosted a performance of “A Maryville Christmas.” This is the second year that this performance was put on by the entire Fine Arts Division.
In previous years, each department in the division would put on their own separate performances, keeping the proceeds from those shows for their individual departments. But now, perhaps moved by the spirit of the holidays, the whole division works together to create one massive, festive celebration and splits the proceeds equally.
The performance consisted of seven different Maryville College music ensembles including The MC Concert Choir, The MC Orchestra, The MC Community Chorus, The MC3Band, The Scottie Singers, The Highland Chorale and the MC Theatre Department. The participating groups, which include over 150 performers when combined, have been prepping for the event since early November. The concert featured a mixture of classic Christmas carols and holiday favorites, as well as an accompanying dialogue and an appearance from Santa Claus himself!
The music performed ranged from the 1500’s to modern-day holiday tracks. Some of the repertoire included “Appalachian Carol,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “A Christmas Festival” and “Grown-Up Christmas List” to name a few.
This festive and interactive event offered a great way for the audience to get into the holiday spirit. During the concert, attendees even had the chance to participate in a sing-along while surrounded by holiday decor.
Several MC students also made solo appearances and performances during the show, so attending the event offered a great way to show your support for your friends at MC, as well as showing a little love for the Division of Fines Arts.
