Schram surpasses 600 victories
Not many coaches, especially at Maryville College, can say that they’ve surpassed 600 victories. However, one such coach can.
One game after winning her 599th career victory, head volleyball coach, Kandis Schram snatched number 600 with a 3-0 win over Covenant College. The Lady Scots took the victory 25-22, 26-24, and 30-28.
“Anytime that you reach a milestone, it validates that you are doing something right,” Schram said. “It has never been about the wins, but the ability to get the most out of our players consistently for the past 26 seasons.”
One such example of that would have been Kristin Findley. Finishing the match-up with 20 kills and 11 digs, Findley snatched her seventh double-double in only eight games. Kara Strickland followed suit with 11 kills and 15 digs, posting her second consecutive double-double of the young season.
In Schram’s tenure, the Volleyball Scots have found seven NCAA tournaments, won eight of the ten Great South Athletic Conference Championships, and seven regular season GSAC crowns. Schram also holds the league record with seven GSAC Coach of the Year accolades.
Coach Schram leads all active Maryville College coaches in wins currently with 600 (600-325). Men’s basketball coach, Randy Lambert, currently holds 584 victories (584-247), while the men’s and women’s soccer coach, Pepe Fernandez stands with 529 (529-224-51).
