“Scream” franchise releases a hit
When I first heard there was a new Scream movie coming out, I was not really that excited to see it, based solely on how I felt about the last Scream movie. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how good this movie, the sixth in the series, actually was. From start to finish, it kept me on my toes trying to guess who the killer was.
Once I felt like I actually guessed correctly, it spun me in a circle and gave me evidence for a new killer. That being said, you definitely need to see all of the Scream movies, so you do not feel lost at any point in the movie.
The movie felt like they actually tried to move a little bit away from the basic Scream movie stuff. They put more plot and more question marks into the movie right from the start. The movie opened like a regular Scream movie where someone gets a call, gets talked to for a little bit, and then gets killed. After this, though, it flips that whole opening on its head and completely confuses the viewers as to what is going on. From that moment, I felt hooked; I needed to know who the killer was.
The movie as a whole had great acting and had some interesting love interests mixed into it, which helped push the movie forward by showing the connection between the main characters of the story. The main group of characters all had strong bonds, and you could really see that on screen when they would get in trouble. I felt their emotions in every scene and saw how much each one cared for one another.
There were some parts in the movie that I felt were a bit unrealistic, mainly one event that stuck with me. There is a part at the end of the movie that I am still trying to figure out how it was even possible to happen. However, it is a movie, so there may be some things that don’t make sense, and that is just how movies are.
I don’t know if I could classify this movie as a horror movie. I think it would be more under the category of suspense. There were no true jump scares throughout the movie. There were some points where you felt like there was going to be, but nothing happened—which, I will admit, kept me from looking away because I wanted to see what would happen. The story throughout the movie carried it all the way through to the end.
Whether this movie was connected to the Scream franchise or not, it was a great watch. It never made me want to get up and leave because I didn’t want to miss anything important. Every detail throughout the movie felt like it was needed. Not only that, but they did a great job of connecting all of the previous movies into the story. This movie as a whole really took me by surprise. I think it was 100% worth the watch if you like the Scream franchise.
